Jocelyn Lonen Winery
  • Golf & Grapes - "Did you know that a relatively new Northern California Winery has had their wine poured for the contestants at the Augusta National Golf Club during The Masters? Did you know that several PGA Tour players, also wine aficionados, have traveled to this remote Napa, California winery to sample and buy its five wines?." • The Best of Northern California: 2004-2006 - "Following is a look at most of the finest wines being made in northern California (with a handful of notes from the south). I’m sure a few wineries get overlooked in my pursuit of the best, and my apologies to those estates. In spite of the depth of this report, readers should keep in mind that the entire article represents no more than 20-25% of all the California wines I tasted. It’s not that the others were bad wines, they simply were not as exciting, and did not merit scores that would support inclusion in this publication." • Discovering Elevation - "Jocelyn Lonen is a mother-daugher operation, the shared vision of Susan Curtis and Brandi Jocelyn Pack. Pack's parents, Susan and Lonen, originally came to Atlas Peak from the South Bay as a respite from their high-powered, high-tech jobs. Avid golfers about to enjoy their retirement, they figured they might start their own winery some day, but were in no particular hurry. That all changed when Lonen Curtis was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer six weeks after officially retiring." • Atlas Peak – the Appellation that Dares Not Speak its Name! - "So, about Jocelyn Lonen. It is run by a mother and daughter team, Susan Curtis and Brandi Jocelyn Pack. They took over the business after Susan’s husband, Lonen, died from a brain tumor at age 56. I tasted three 2004 Joceyln Lonen blends and liked them all:" Read Whole Article - published by wine writer Jim White of napaman.com (8/2007)
  • wine musings - "Our first stop was the brand spankin’ new tasting room of Jocelyn Lonen, at what seemed to be the very Peak of Atlas Peak road. What a view..." Read Whole Article - published by wine writer Loren Grossman of winemusings.com (5/2007)
  • It's Time for Wine - "Jocelyn Lonen Winery: Located on 44 acres on Atlas Peak , and now managed by young Brandi Jocelyn Pack since the death of her father in 2004, we predict this winery to be only a few years away from stardom...." • Cabernet's day has arrived at Atlas Peak - "Jocelyn Lonen Winery was pouring three lovely wines, all with Atlas Peak appellations, that will be released in mid-April. The 2004 Jocelyn Lonen Cabernet Sauvignon ($35) has flavors of bright black cherry, spice and a hint of dill. The 2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($60) is a little plumper with some obvious oak, along with ripe black cherry fruit and roasted coffee. It could use at least a few more months in the bottle. Finally, there's the 2004 Founder's Blend ($85), a blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, with a dash of malbec. The wine shows good depth and intensity, along with plenty of black cherry and spice. Atlas Peak clearly is an appellation on the rise. Wines like these should help the area start to move out of the shadow of its better-known Napa neighbors." Read Whole Article - published by Laurie Daniel, San Jose Mercury News (3/2007)
2006 Jocelyn Lonen Reserve Russian River Chardonnay
  • "The finest of this trio is the 2006 Chardonnay Reserve Russian River. It offers abundant quantities of white peach, pear, honeysuckle, and background toast-like notes in a full-bodied, impeccably well-balanced style. With good acidity as well as purity, it should drink well for 2-3 years." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2006 Jocelyn Lonen Reserve Carneros Chardonnay
  • "The 2006 Chardonnay Reserve Carneros is similarly-styled to the regular bottling, but more intense, complete, and long." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2006 Jocelyn Lonen Carneros Chardonnay
  • "The 2006 Chardonnay Carneros exhibits citrus oil, wet rock, poached pear, and brioche characteristics offered in a medium to full-bodied, pure style. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2005 Jocelyn Lonen Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
  • "My favorite among the red wine offerings is the 2005 Cabernet Franc Reserve. It reveals notions of bay leaves, blueberries, raspberries, and sweet cherries in its medium-bodied, elegant, pure personality. Its complexity, layered texture and sweet tannins in the finish suggest it can be drunk now or cellared for a decade." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2005 Jocelyn Lonen Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • "Aromas of creme de cassis, blackberries, tobacco leaves, and pain grille emerge from the medium-bodied, elegant, nicely restrained but beautifully flavored, well- balanced 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. It can be drunk now, or cellared for 10- 12 years." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2005 Jocelyn Lonen Napa Valley Founder's Blend
  • "The 2005 Founder’s Reserve is the most tannic and backward of these Bordeaux varietal-based offerings. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a medium to full- bodied wine with loads of tannin, hints of charcoal, black currants, sage, and underbrush. It requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 12-15+. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it evolve into an outstanding wine. " - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
2005 Jocelyn Lonen, Krupp Vineyard, Napa Valley Malbec
(5 case Premeire Napa Valley Auction Lot)
  • Premeire Napa Valley: Worthy of a Second Glass - "Speaking of grapes that normally add spice to the cabernet, malbec showed up in a pair of outstanding offerings. One is from a new player, Jocelyn Lonen Wines, with winemaker Jamey Whetstone producing for this inaugural lot a wonderful expression of juicy, spicy red and black fruit from Stagecoach Vineyard, cherries, cassis and a lovely plum finish that I'd serve up in a heartbeat." 2001 Lonen Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • "Smoke, tobacco, ripe plum, currant and blackberry scents form a wonderful aroma. On the palate, it's rich and concentrated, with layers of sweet plum, blackberry and black licorice. The tannins are thick and firm but also ripe and round for this age. Best from 2005 through 2010." - JL, Wine Spectator
